Using a super wide angle lens to shoot landscapes as a landscape photographer is very common. But recent years I’ve used it for just several times in wild land, instead of the wide angle lens, zoom lens ( 70-300mm) become my main equipment.

The zoom lens is very flexible for me to composite. In the wild, wide is not a problem but to close. Yes, just like Robert Capa said “If your picture isn't good enough, you're not close enough.” In wide wild place we can not get close to the main element of our works sometimes - mountain peaks, island in the center of a lake for examples - , so zoom lens can easily bring them to you. On the contrary, I love using wide angle lens in narrow place such as interior of buildings and streets, it can take all the things that eyes can not do at only one glance.

This one is taken by zoom lens, layers ( compositional ) were easily generated by it and the fog. If I used my wide angle lens, all this layers would mix into one chaos layer, no one can tell what I want to express.
